who we are

The Beginnings of hbc

In the late 1970s, the congregation of Farley Street Baptist Church (now called Pathway Baptist Church) recognized the need for a church plant in the rapidly developing area north of Waxahachie. With the help of the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas and the Ellis-Hill Association, Farley Street Baptist Church purchased the land where HBC now sits. Jack McDaniel led Farley Street during this time.

After nearly a decade of preparation, the mission finally proceeded. Dr. Roy McLaughlin was called as the missionary pastor, and the mission held an organizational service on November 8, 1986. In a matter of months, the church went off mission status and became completely self-supporting.

the early years

The early years were marked by aggressive outreach and steady growth. In 1992, the church completed a building expansion that doubled the square footage of the church plant.

In May 1993, J.D. Courtney was called as the second pastor. By 1997, the church completely paid off all its facilities, including a brand-new educational addition. In 1998, the church expanded the worship center to twice its original size. Thanks to God’s provision, the church completed and paid off the project in less than a year.

In 2001, the church called Tim Gibson to serve as its third pastor. Under his leadership, the church added another facility: the Family Life Center.

the current years

In December 2012, the church elected Sam Bradley as its fourth pastor. Under his leadership the church established a biblical counseling ministry for church members and the surrounding community. In August 2015, the church property and facilities became debt free.

The church continues to experience growth as God sees fit and has committed itself to the Word of God. The church seeks to evangelize the lost and disciple the save, all to God’s glory!
